Songs and Chants for Numbers and Letters
September 19th, 2010 by Ms Leary

As the mastering of numbers and letters is quite abstract, we teach the children chants that they can say to remember how to write the numbers/letters. We refer to bumps as bottoms and tummies and straight lines as standing lines and horizontal lines as sleepers.

1 – Straight Down, Straight Down all the way to Town
2 – My name is Mr. Two, I have a Big Fat Tummy and a nice long shoe.
3 – Two Fat Tummies that is me and my name is Mr. 3
4 – I could not find the door, and now my head is sore. I went from the top and did not stop, my name is Mr. Four
5 – I’m so skinny, I’m so skinny, I’m so fat, where is my hat?
6 – I’m a C, I’m a C, I”m a C…I see a B!
7 – Over and down, Over and down, 7 never makes me frown.
8 – I’m an S, I like to Skate, keep on going, I’m Mr. 8.
