Hi Parents and Friends!

We trust this email finds you all happy and healthy on a beautiful Spring Sunday! The weather continues to be lovely for the beginning of the week, and we excited to be outside, swimming, enjoying home made popsicles and experimenting with paper making…

1) Paper-Making
We will start to make our own Paper again using our old Paper Towels. Throughout the year, we have saved them into big bags, or thrown them into the compost. Now that the weather is warmer, the paper can be made very quickly! The fibers in paper are extraordinary as they can grow back together, to hold a sheet of paper firmly in place. The children put the paper towels in the blender ( a new extra super powerful one is on its way!) add colors, and pour the pulp onto our drying screens. As they make this, the colors can change and blend into each other. For now, our paper will be thick. However, once they understand the “how” we will change our technique to place the pulp under a proper printing wooden press. It comes out flat and beautiful and ready for art!

2. Caring for your Quilts!
The Paints on the Quilts are all washable. If the Quilts start to get a little dirty, or are spilled on, you can simply hand wash them. We hope that the children will love them forever. Afterall, a “Quilt is a Blanket made with Love!”

3. Social Development: Patience
We need to stay with Patience this week, as towards the end of last week the children started to incorporate the concept into their own language. “Mrs. Leary, I painted my Fat Cat so patiently!” We need more time to explore how patience looks and how it behaves.

4. Graduates! Leave a little of yourself behind!
It is our tradition at The Wonder Center, to ask all departing children  to leave behind a hardback book as a contribution to our library. As we come across them, and share them, during the year; the children love the idea of learning about the “Graduates”, who they were and when they went to school and how old they are now. Please make your contribution even more meaningful by:
1) Include on the front inside cover a photo of your child and the date
2) Have them write their name.

We will start reading these as they come in! Even years later, Graduates return and seek out their books in the library.

5 Upcoming Events:
June 7 Flying Fox Field Trip. We will not be using permission forms for this excursion. The children will start walking around 10:30/10:45 to The Flying Fox on the corner of Hong Feng Road and Biyun Road. We will cover the cost of the meal for the children: chicken strips, broccoli, macaroni and cheese and an ice cream for dessert. Parents can order off of the menu and cover their own cost. We hope you can join us!

June 8th Graduation
We will begin our Graduation Ceremony at around 12:15. Bring your video cameras as the children have a song that they would like to sing!

Yearbooks will be distributed after the Ceremony. We realize that they are a great expense at 500 RMB, but they are truly worth it!

Here is to a fun, action packed movie making week ahead!

Warmly,

The Wonder Center Team
